Plant Sciences

Sue Trusty

Sue Trusty is an Assistant Professor Educator, a freelance garden writer and horticultural consultant. Sue has worked at a large California plant nursery, owned an herb and edible flower business and served as the horticulture agent for the Cooperative Extension Service in Mecklenburg County (Charlotte) North Carolina. She is now the first full time horticulture professor in U.C’s horticulture program. A full time educator, Sue’s areas of expertise include the plant sciences, herbaceous plants and edibles for sustainable landscapes. Emphasis is on experiential learning; student projects include hydroponic and aeroponic gardening, school and community garden designs, and plant propagation. Sue leads a study abroad course on sustainable horticulture in Great Britain, and is also coordinating the University’s first course on medical cannabis and hemp.
