Areas of Research

Students can elect to specialize on topics of research and design such as design practice, adaptive reuse, maker technologies, human-centered design, evidence-based design, healthcare, retail, hospitality, illumination, extreme environments, furniture, material technologies, history and theory, historic preservation/re-use of historic buildings, digital fabrication, trends research, and socio-cultural factors.  Opportunities for collaboration and inter-disciplinary projects are also offered with the programs of Architecture, and throughout the College of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning (DAAP) and across the university.
