Mike Zender is a third generation typesetter and designer, following in the footsteps of his father and grandfather and now working with his son Micah, making four generations of family design. Mike has been the beneficiary of an excellent education, first attending the University of Cincinnati during the formative years of what has become an excellent Design Program, then graduating from Yale University having studied under many of this century's best designers and design educators: Armin Hofmann, Inge Druckrey, Herbert Matter, Paul Rand, Bradbury Thompson, Wolfgang Weingart and others.
Mike founded a design practice, Zender+Associates, Inc., one month after finishing graduate school and began teaching at the University level one year later. Mike's work and that of his associates has been published regularly and exhibited broadly since 1980. Mike has written two books on design and contributed to several others. He has lectured internationally at both university and professional venues. Mike has lead workshops, been a featured conference speaker and had a one man show of his theoretical work on the Exegetical Approach to Design at Miami University (Oxford, Ohio). He is past president of the AIGA Cincinnati Chapter (American Institute of Graphic Arts). Mike is active in his church and has steered his personal design practice toward serving organizations which provide global humanitarian and educational services.
Mike currently lives in southwestern Ohio with his high school sweetheart and talks nearly every day with his three amazing children who are scattered about the country. Designing, writing and teaching are outward expressions of his introspective and thoughtful personality.
