Karen Monzel is Associate Dean and Associate Professor of Design in DAAP's School of Design. She was instrumental in developing the new Digital Design major for the School of Design and co-ordinated the program from its inception until 2003, and continues to teach in the program. She has a primary teaching and research focus of interactive multimedia design and imaging. Her most recent project, a CD-ROM that provides a historical overview and interactive virtual tour of an architecturally significant town, Seaside, Florida, won the Chris Award at the Columbus International Film and Video Festival as well as inclusion in the AIGA Origination Show 2004. She is a past recipient of a University Faculty Achievement Award, Dean's Special Award, numerous awards from design professional organizations and has had work published in national and international books and journals. As a Faculty Fellow of the University's Center for Academic Technology, Professor Monzel has been involved in numerous initiatives for faculty development regarding academic technology.
