Injoo Kim is an associate professor in the Fashion Design Program. She began her professional career in 1980s, in Seoul, Korea. Her professional experience includes work as a design team leader at an internationally-recognized Renown firm in Japan, developing seasonal lines of ready to wear for their Arnold Palmer brand. Since joining UC in 1994, she has taught courses in a range of areas in fashion design, including dress design, tailoring, knitwear, children's wear design, pattern making, and computer-aided design and design communication.
Professor Kim's research and scholarly work has resulted in multiple publications. She has authored three books and several articles on the subjects of flat apparel design, flat pattern, and machine knitting. As part of her strong interests in developing technological solutions to fashion design and teaching, she is also currently developing interactive CD-ROMs based on two of her books. She is both an active member and governing member of various professional associations, including the International Textile and Apparel Association (ITAA), Fashion Group International (FGI), and the American Sewing Guild (ASG).
She has received research grants from several sources, including the UC Research Council's Summer Research Fellowship Award, Fairchild Publications and Prentice Hall. She has also obtained several grants of software and training from leading producers of fashion design software.
