Ann Black is an Associate Professor of Interior Design in the School of Architecture and Interior Design. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Design and her Master of Arts degree in Design Management and Planning, both from The Ohio State University. Before joining the faculty, she practiced interior design for ten years with The Limited, Inc. and Wendy's International, Inc. Her Wendy's Restaurant project at the Columbus Zoo won an Honorable Mention from the Institute of Business Designers.
Professor Black has served on numerous committees at the program, school, college and university level. She is active in the Interior Design Educators Council. A theme that runs through Professor Black's teaching and research is the crucial connection between education and design practice. She organizes her studios and seminars around the principle of collaborative education, in which both educators and design practitioners enrich and deepen the professional experience of students. She is a leader in the integration of digital technology and studio instruction. Through the critical application of three-dimensional modeling software, her students explore new ways to communicate increasingly complex visions of the built environment.
