Areas of research include emerging trends in retail developments and their contribution to revitalization and redevelopment, contemporary urbanism and urban design, the pedagogy of place in urban design, urbanization in China, and visual landscape analysis. In 2006, he received the Fulbright Scholars Award for teaching and research and he visited the School of Architecture and Urbanism at the Technical University of Cluj, Romania. As a principal investigator he recently managed a group of students and conducted an urban design studio for the preparation of the Eastern Anyang New Town Conceptual Plan in China. Professor Triantafillou holds a Master of Landscape Architecture form Harvard University, the Bachelor of Urban Planning from the University of Cincinnati, and he has studied Law at the National University of Athens, Greece, prior to immigrating to the US.
