Physical planning, the most traditional specialty within planning, is concerned with the orderly, efficient, and equitable development and arrangement of human activities on the land. Future land use plans guide decisions about private development and public projects. Students in this specialization address issues such as land use regulation, recreation, housing, resource management and environmental conservation, public policy, zoning and transportation. Students may design their own sub-specialty within physical planning with the approval of their academic advisor.
Students in the Physical Planning specialization are required to complete 5 courses. These courses include the 3 required courses listed below and 2 electives chosen from the recommended elective list or similar courses in the university.
