Professor of Fine Arts (Photography); BA (19th Century European Studies, magna cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa) St. Lawrence University; MFA (Photography) Rochester Institute of Technology. Primary area of research interest is investigating the many ways in which the history of a person, place, or nation leaves its mark. Individual shows in Germany and the U. S., including Herbert F. Johnson Museum of Art, Blue Sky Gallery, and A.R.C. Gallery. Group shows in the U.S. include the Center for Photography in Woodstock, NY, the Cincinnati Art Museum, and the Eye Gallery in San Francisco, CA. International group shows in Brazil, Finland, Belgium, Ukraine, the Czech Republic, China and Germany. Grants include an Ohio Arts Council Artists Projects Grant (2000), English-Speaking Union Travel-Study Grant (2000), and two Ohio Arts Council Individual Artist Grant s (1990, 2002). Work in permanent collections of the International Museum of Photography at George Eastman House in Rochester, NY, The Harry Ransom Center in  Austin, TX, the Cincinnati Art Museum, and the Museu da Imagem e do Som in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Author of “Tears of Stone: World War I Remembered” (2004). Winner of the Dolly Cohen Award for Excellence in University Teaching in 2002 and DAAP Professor of the Year in 2011.
